A body imaging radiologist specializes in diagnosing conditions of the abdomen, pelvis, liver, prostate and other internal organs using CT, ultrasound and MRI, and in performing image-guided procedures such as biopsies and fluid drainage using CT or ultrasound for precise, minimally invasive access.
Dr. Labib performs CT- and ultrasound-guided non-vascular procedures, including solid organ biopsy, thyroid fine needle aspiration (FNA), thoracentesis and paracentesis.
No. There is no scientific evidence that a biopsy causes cancer to spread to other parts of the body or worsens the outlook; this is a common myth. A biopsy is the most reliable way to get a definitive diagnosis, and the treatment plan depends on it. In very rare cases, tumor cells can be left along the needle path (needle-tract seeding). This is extremely uncommon, and the risk is kept as low as possible by using fine needles, a carefully planned single entry path and real-time imaging guidance. For nearly all patients, the benefit of knowing exactly what the lesion is far outweighs this small risk. Dr. Labib plans each biopsy with this in mind and will discuss your case with you before the procedure.
Yes. Dr. Labib's areas of expertise include prostate imaging and cancer detection, using multiparametric imaging techniques to help identify and characterize prostate cancer.
